10 tips & tricks to make your product photography work for you.

Packshots

Packshots are one of the most important elements that take care of your online visibility and sales. The more information you provide about your product, the better informed consumers will be and the more inclined they will be to buy the product (from you). Research has indicated that good pack shots not only boost sales but also reduce returns by more than 20%.

You can start right away - here are 10 simple tips on how to improve your images online and increase your online sales.

Tip 1: Equal light

Ensure balanced (equal) light and avoid extraneous shadows.

Tip 2: Neutral background

Work with a neutral background or (even better), make your packshots freestanding so you can easily place them on any background.

Tip 3: Pay attention to your colors

Pay attention to your colors. Are they accurate and consistent throughout your collection/other images. Keep in mind that every screen is different and can also give very different results.

Tip 4: realistic ratio

Take the photo right in front of the subject and pay attention to the realistic proportions of your product.

Tip 5: Work with a clean image

Additional styling elements and props can be wonderful for ancillary images but are very distracting for a pack shot. When shooting packshots, best to keep them as clean as possible and let the product speak for itself.

Tip 6: Choose the right image ratio

The ideal format. Most web shops and social media channels work with square or portrait formats. With a portrait format, you have less white space "loss" with clothing, for example. Think about the formats before you start shooting, that way you avoid adjustments afterwards.

Tip 7: Multiple photos at a siloute

Are you working with full silhouettes? Then photograph the pieces together but also separately.

Tip 8: Multiple photos per product, with attention to detail

Be sure to show more than 1 image of your product and focus on special features (a colored sole, a special hem, a detail on a closure, a handy adhesive strip, a hidden reinforcement, ... The more relevant info you share, the longer a potential customer will stay on your product page and the greater the chance of a sale.

Tip 9: Be contingent

Be consistent. An online store can quickly look cluttered and that's disturbing. Ensure consistency in your structure and, more importantly, in your images. Use the same settings, show the same angles and make choices about background colors, shadows and which images you want to show first in your overview.

Tip 10: Choose the right image format

More and more mobile purchases are being made, and download time should be as short as possible. What you can do? Not overweight your images. 72dpi is more than enough to make your image look good at 1080 x 1080 px size.

What is a still?

This is the simplest of the packshots. Taken straight from 1 angle. Show at least 2 stills per product (front and back) Ideally you should also show the side and - if relevant - the top, bottom (e.g. bi shoes) or inside (e.g. handbag).

PRODUCT VIDEO'S = the key to the basket

In addition to showing packshots, more and more videos are made on models (recognizable or unrecognizable). With videos you can show how a product is applied to a body, or how a garment moves and falls. Since our brain processes images 60,000x faster than text, video is an enormous added value on product pages.
